Integrating Buprenorphine Therapy into HIV Primary Care Settings

The projects in this monograph assist Ryan White grantees in designing or refining the delivery of public health services to include the integration of buprenorphine-HIV treatment services/programs. The chapters outline the processes programs need to put in place, including meeting DATA 2000 regulatory requirements, achieving institutional buy-in, implementing staff training requirements, and evaluating processes and outcomes.

The American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) recently published an updated practice guideline on the treatment of chronic infection with hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype 1. The guideline, authored by members of the AASLD practice guideline committee, was issued in response to the development of new direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) and the identification of several single nucleotide polymorphisms associated with spontaneous and treatment-induced clearance of HCV infection. dotSixteenth Annual HIV Drug Guide

The 16th Annual HIV Drug Guide is a handbook to the 34 current and upcoming medications for treating HIV including their cost, side effects and potential interactions. It is designed to educate people living with HIV/AIDS and their caregivers about the FDA-approved HIV regimens. An accompanying chart provides dosage information, food and liquid requirements, and pictures to identify each medication. The updated version of the guide also includes expanded information on HIV drug co-pays, patient-assistance programs available through pharmaceutical companies, state AIDS Drug Assistance Programs, Medicare, and Medicaid.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) HIV/AIDS Bureau (HAB) recently completed a study of 10 HIV services providers treating predominantly Latinos. The resulting research report, Responding to the HIV/AIDS Epidemic Among Latinos: Latino Best Practices, provides an outline of effective approaches to addressing barriers to care experienced by Latinos throughout the United States. This issue of HRSA CAREAction summarizes the findings presented in the HRSA study.

dotFamily Planning, Preconception Care and Safer Conception for Women Living with HIV Infection webinar. May 15th, 2012, 2:00-4:00pm EST

Participants will be able to view slides and interact with the presenters via web-based training platform Adobe Connect. Some of the learning objectives are to discuss the importance and goals of preconception care in the context of HIV, describe components of preconception counseling, assessment and interventions, describe considerations for selecting appropriate contraceptives and compare options for women living with HIV, describe methods for safer conception for an HIV infected woman in a HIV-serodiscordant relationship, and more. Pre-registration is REQUIRED for participation. Registration deadline is May 12th. CEUs will not be available for this event.

The session and speaker schedule is as follows

Session 1: Preconception care in the setting of HIV infection: William Short, MD, MPH, Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Session 2: Contraceptive care for women/couples living with HIV infection: Kimberly McClellan, MSN, WHNP-BC, CRNP, AIDS Care Group, Chester, Pennsylvania.

Session 3: Safer conception for HIV-discordant couples: Judy Levison, MD, MPH, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas.
