New Resources | Retention in HIV Care: A Guide to Patient-Centered Strategies Source: Mountain Plains AETC
The guide covers retention strategies including enhancing the clinic environment, offering patient education, and focusing on patients' strengths for success in treatment. It is an important reference for clinicians and clinical staff to help retain HIV-infected patients in care. Included are practical tips and a "teaching tools" section for key examples of the skills-building strategies in action. (May 2011)

Conferences/Trainings | A Webinar Series on Women and HIV: Clinical Concepts from WHICC
Note: Texas/OKlahoma AETC invites you to participate in this webinar on Wednesday, June 22nd at 8:30am CT. Clinicians will gain competencies in decreasing barriers for HIV testing, linkage to care, and retention in care for HIV-infected minority women.
This is a free webinar series consisting of experts in the field of treating women with HIV, which will feature an interactive web-based approach to learning. TX/OK AETC prepared this event in response to the needs of those agencies and providers who might have limited resources for travel, yet are eager to obtain the information.

Note: This conference will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2011, in Atlanta, Georgia at the Atlanta Marriot Marquis Hotel. The speaker, Dr. Jeanne Sheffield, is an Associate Professor of Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Maternal-Fetal Medicine (ABOG). Dr. Sheffield has extensive experience in treating sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

Note: On Thursday, June 16th from 2:00pm - 3:30pm EST, the Prairielands Addiction Technology Transfer Center (ATTC) will host this training on "A Provider's Introduction to Substance Abuse Treatment for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Individuals, First Edition." Participants will gain an increased familiarity with the issues and barriers faced by LGBT persons in need of substance use disorder-related services. Knowledge about the interaction between LGBT issues and substance use and abuse will enhance professional abilities to offer sensitive, affirmative, culturally relevant, and effective addiction services to LGBT clients.
