The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is a land-grant, historically black college founded in 1886. It became a member of the then eleven campus (now thirteen) University of Maryland System, now known as the University System of Maryland in 1998.

The School of Pharmacy is part of the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions. The School of Pharmacy and Health Professions consists of four academic departments: Exercise Science, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant and Rehabilitation Services. Undergraduate programs include Exercise Science, Physician Assistant and Rehabilitation Services. Graduate programs include the master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), and the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.). Students are actively involved with faculty initiatives to improve the health and well-being of the community through health education/promotion. A variety of internship sites for student practical experiences are available. The Doctor of Pharmacy Program at UMES is the first professional pharmacy program on the Delmarva (Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia) Peninsula.
