The Essentials of HIV-Integrated Care: Expanding Whole-Person Care Through Comprehensive and Specialty Trainings, is an HIV syndemic-focused training series aimed at providing the most up-to-date information and education for medical health care team members currently not involved in HIV care to increase their ability to prevent new HIV infections, identify people with HIV who are undiagnosed or out of care, and link patients not on antiretrovirals to care. This session will be on HIV Treatment.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand current trends in the epidemiology of the HV epidemic in the US, including incidence and mortality rates, and the population subgroups at highest risk of HIV infection.
- Learn the basics of the current antiretroviral treatment guidelines for people living with HIV (PLWH), including an overview of drug classes, common toxicities and side effects, and future treatments in the pipeline.
- Discuss important primary care treatments and prevention strategies, particularly important for people living with HIV, including cancer screenings and primary prevention of cardiovascular disease
