There will be two presentations during this session:

1. The Epidemiology of HIV and Other Sexually Transmitted Diseases in Washington, DC and Beyond

Learning Objectives:

  • Review epidemiology data on HIV, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and Syphilis
  • Define Syndemics
  • Describe the Syndemics role between HIV and Sexually Transmitted Diseases
  • Analyze HIV epidemiology data of Washington DC, the surrounding cities, and national data

2. Engaging HIV Care in the High-Risk Population

Learning Objectives:

  • Explain basic concepts about transgender and gender non-conforming people in order to help healthcare professionals optimize care for their patients
  • Describe HIV epidemiology among transgender (trans) people in the United States
  • Identify new HIV prevention strategies including PrEP
  • Identify barriers to engagement & retention in HIV Care
