Dr. Pimentel graduated in 1998 from medical school at the UT Health Science Center in San Antonio, TX, and then moved to the Boston area for a residency in Family Medicine. After completing the residency, he became Board Certified and practiced for four years as a primary care physician in a Boston-area community health center. Realizing he wanted more community involvement, Dr. Pimentel made the decision to go back to school and gained a Masters in Public Health from Boston University before moving back home to Texas. He then spent five years at the TX Dept of State Health Services Regional Office in Arlington, TX. During this time, Dr. Pimentel had two different positions on the HIV/STD team: first as a STD Surveillance Specialist and then as a Program Monitor over agencies receiving Ryan White Title B funds for prevention programming. He also became a voting member of the Ryan White Planning Council of the Greater Dallas Area from 2010-2014. Currently, Dr. Pimentel is the Texas Program Manager for the South Central AETC and has been based with the AETC in Dallas since 2013 .
