It is well recognized that there is a need for geriatrics-informed care for PWH over the age of 50. People living with HIV can experience age-related health concerns and chronic diseases earlier than the general population. They additionally confront geriatric syndromes including multimorbidity, frailty, cognitive and memory concerns, and polypharmacy. And yet, there is still a care gap for these patients experiencing comorbidities and geriatric syndromes. Few integrated HIV and geriatrics programs exist, and there are challenges in referring patients. This seminar provides an update on the epidemiology, mechanism, and management of individuals aging with HIV; discusses geriatric frameworks; examines geriatrics through the lens of HIV and aging; and addresses current HIV and aging care models and gaps in care, with an emphasis on solutions to enhance the care of individuals aging with HIV.
