This 3-part curriculum and implementation package was originally developed to implement the Recommendations for Incorporating HIV Prevention into the Medical Care of Persons with HIV, which were developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the HIV Medicine Association (HIVMA) of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA).

The curriculum was updated in 2011 and 2013 to reflect current state of prevention efforts with persons with HIV, in line with the National HIV/AIDS Strategy.
