Taking the Fear out of Dental Visits: Oral Health, COVID-19 and HIV

(recorded 10/24/20) This two-hour workshop provides an interprofessional update on HIV oral health issues and the role of medical, dental, and case managers and others in assuring access to safe oral healthcare during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The session includes HIV and oral health overviews; safe dental visit procedures for emergency, urgent, and routine care; discussions on successful teledentistry practice, and best practices for dental team members in providing care during these challenging times. Patient and provider perspectives in sharing safety concerns, as well as steps each can take to mitigate these risks, are also addressed.

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • KNOWLEDGE: Identify key COVID-19 concerns for patients with HIV and their healthcare teams
  • APPLICATION: Describe safe visit plans for routine, urgent, and emergency dental visits
  • SYNTHESIS: Summarize approaches that patients and dental teams can implement to support continued access to services
