This one‑hour CME session explores the HIV syndemic—where HIV, substance use, and mental health conditions intersect to intensify vulnerability, complicate treatment engagement, and worsen outcomes across the HIV care continuum. Participants will learn how the syndemic framework explains these mutually reinforcing conditions, review evidence‑based integrated care models that improve retention and viral suppression, and gain practical guidance on screening tools, safer‑use strategies, and pharmacotherapies for substance use and mental health disorders in people with HIV. 

Objectives

•  Define the syndemic framework and explain how co-occurring HIV, substance use, and mental health conditions interact to worsen HIV care continuum outcomes
•  Describe integrated care models to address the HIV syndemic
•  Identify recommended screening tools, safer use strategies, and pharmacotherapies for substance use and mental health disorders in people with HIV
