The HIV workforce is deeply committed to caring for communities impacted by barriers to care and complex health needs. Yet many providers also carry their own lived experiences into the work. Using a whole-person-centered lens, this workshop will explore how burnout, compassion fatigue, and secondary stress affect provider well-being, team culture, and continuity of HIV prevention and care. Participants will leave with realistic, practical tools for self-awareness, boundary-setting, and stress recovery. This workshop will also equip participants with workplace practices that promote healing and sustainability, thereby providing more effective and responsive care.

Objectives

  • Describe the relationship between burnout, compassion fatigue, secondary stress, and HIV service delivery.
  • Apply a whole-person-centered lens to provider wellness and workforce sustainability.
  • Identify realistic tools for self-awareness, boundary setting, peer support, and stress recovery.
  • Discuss workplace practices that support healing, sustainability, and effective HIV service delivery.
