The Minority AIDS Initiative (MAI) Series: The goal of this series is to educate minority serving healthcare providers to improve the quality of and access to care for minority persons with HIV and those at risk of acquiring HIV. It also aims to facilitate changes in service delivery to develop more inclusive care environments, operations, and interactions, thereby increasing engagement among minority patients and their families.

Objectives

  • Analyze epidemiologic data to identify key risk factors for perinatal HIV transmission.
  • Apply current prevention guidance to select appropriate strategies for reducing perinatal HIV transmission during pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum.
  • Analyze how structural, institutional, and interpersonal barriers can affect access to HIV prevention and care among populations experiencing inequities.
  • Evaluate culturally responsive approaches and propose strategies to improve HIV prevention and access to care for underserved pregnant and postpartum individuals.
