This presentation will focus on how co-occurring substance use disorders and HIV affect oral health with a particular focus on how these issues are addressed at a Healthcare for the Homeless Program in Boston.

Objectives

  • Review the current trends in substance use disorders and HIV infection rates nationally and in the Boston area
  • Recognize the oral presentations and dental implications of opioid, cannabis, methamphetamine, and cocaine use
  • Review oral health trends among patients living with HIV
  • Mitigate oral health risks associated with medication-assisted treatment.
  • Identify opportunities for interprofessional collaboration to support and promote the oral health of vulnerable patients
