Trauma Informed Care and HIV

This presentation will focus on the trauma informed care for patients with HIV who often have a range of stressors including interpersonal violence histories notable for physical and sexual abuse. Other stressors may also include stigma, addiction, poverty and discrimination. In particular, the lives of Women and LGBTQI people are disproportionately impacted by trauma. The presentation will focus on common responses to trauma, psychiatric comorbidities, and strategies for managing patients in a trauma informed manner including the use of motivational interviewing.
